The Divorce Playbook: Think About the Future

financial future after a divorce

It is important for you to look toward the future and your life after you divorce.

Welcome back!!  Last week, we began a 3-part series about financial strategies that should be implemented when you plan for your divorce.  Hopefully, you made a copy of “Charting Assets” from the resource on our website, and you are now an expert on the family finances.  Now it is time to think ahead.

Strategy Number 2:  “Think About The Future”

Although divorce is a difficult time, it is also a time of rebirth.  You are going to be able to start a new life from scratch.  Yes, this is scary, but also important to think ahead so that your financial future remains stable and allows you to do the things you have always dreamed about.  Whatever your dreams or plans may be, you will need to have a budget, and a clear financial picture.

This week take the time to make future plans for yourself.  These plans will help you identify your priorities when you enter negotiations for your divorce.  On our website, under “Resources/News” section, you will find the “My Priorities Worksheet”.  Again, make a copy and use it to help you identify what you truly want from the negotiations.  Wanted it all will not be helpful to you or your lawyer, so take the time to identify your true priorities.

Let us know if you have any questions, or share with us your experience with the process.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Remember to return next week for next steps!
